Gourmet Music

It’s about time we had a search engine that catered to our unique tastes. Here’s one that seems to do just that

Any song you want: The new search enables you to find any song you want, irrespective of when the song released!
Entertainment sites are the order of the day, and nobody is complaining, but the problem lies in the fact that there are just too many. We either lose track, or don’t find what we’re searching for.

This often leads us to be completely lost in the entire search hullabaloo, ultimately finding something that we weren’t really looking for.

Google, the search god, does come to the rescue, but more often than not, the search is so generalised that a good two hours of searching won’t get you anywhere close to what you were looking for in the first place.

The newbie -- Guruji Music Search

Guruji.com, one of the first ‘Made in India’ search engines, decided to solve the problem, at least as far as music is concerned, and launched its own desi search engine (Guruji.com/en/music) that  promises to give every Indian music aficionado the song of their choice.

It’s still in it beta version. iT ADDA decided to get a first-hand experience.

The accuracy of the search results on this recently launched section is impressive enough to get someone hooked from the start.

Based on keywords given, the search engine provides you with enough and more  totally relevant links to the exact kind of music you have been searching for.

Our take

The search engine functions like any other; it’s pretty simple and all you need to do is type in the name of the song, the movie, the music director or the album. If you want it to be more specific, select the year, or the language, or even some of the other options that pertain to your search and hit ‘go’.

If you’re not sure of the exact song, but do remember a few lines here and there, key that in and the engine will find all the relevant songs for you.

The available links are rounded up in a matter of seconds and what’s more, you get to play the song if the server supports online players and the buffer speed on the website is good.

Not bad at all

We were quite impressed to find the quick and effective results on hard-to-find music scores from languages like Kannada and Tamil.

Most of what we had keyed in from the four South Indian languages gave us positive results and enough options to choose from.

While the search engine does not support a downloading option, for obvious reasons, the fact that you can listen to your ‘searched’ song on the same web page, enhances the experience twofold.

The brains speak

The engine has concentrated on almost all the major Indian languages.
“We wanted to enable the Indian consumer to get the kind of music they like, and so we Indianised the search to our needs and preferences,” says Anurag Dod, CEO and founder of Guruji.

“Entertainment is big in India, and while most sites are catering to what the consumer needs, the fragmentation works against the whole concept. So we decided to tie up all those loose ends, and launch as comprehensive a music search engine as we could,” he adds.

The team plan on increasing the English music options on the site in the near future, but here too, they will concentrate on the Indian preference in western music.
